Laundry
Doing the laundry is a necessary but tedious task, But, like many other household chores, you can add a green twist to at least make the work more environmentally and financially friendly!
Washing machines and tumble dryers both use a lot of energy and therefore lead to environmental and financial costs, so the less you can use them, the better. This can be done by:
- drying your clothes outside on a washing line. The wind is free to use, will dry your clothes quickly and will save you on tumble dryer and radiator costs.
- The type of cycle you use will also have an affect on the amount of energy you use. Washing clothes at 30 degrees rather than 40 degrees will save up to 40% on your washing energy costs.
- The major washing powder and liquid brands, such as Ariel – who work with the Energy Saving Trust to promote their ‘Turn to 30’C campaign – all agree that their products work just as well at a lower temperature. Whilst also helping to reduce Carbon emissions.
- Replacing regular laundry detergents with ecoballs can also help to save money and the environment. Ecoballs are reusable for 150 washes so can save manufacturing energy, cut out the need for fabric conditioners & a rinse cycle to save more money.
Save energy, save money & help save the planet
