It might not seem like the most environmentally friendly idea in the world, but getting big lorries to drive food to your door can actually cut down on carbon emissions.The thought behind this one is that it’s better to have 1 lorry delivering food to 10 people, than 10 individual cars driving to the supermarket every week. Of course, taking the bus or walking would be the most environmentally friendly way to purchase but, if you do drive to the shops on a regular basis, then online alternatives may be worth considering.
You’ll be saving money on your fuel bill, although keep in mind that online shopping is likely to incur an extra delivery charge. However, you’ll also save time, put fewer miles on your car and be less likely to impulse buy, stopping you from spending money on items that you don’t really need.
An extra angle to consider is that many online companies will deliver your shopping in plastic bags. If possible, try to request that they don’t do this, or recycle the bags if they are still provided.
