Enjoying Your Journey

For most people, a two week holiday is all about the destination, getting away from it all for a few days & enjoying the sun somewhere hot. We often want to get to our destination as soon as possible. However, journeying at speed often consumes more energy than if you travelled in a more leisurely way.  Flying from A to B will consume considerably more energy per passenger than an equally packed train journey over the same distance.
By travelling at a slower pace, you will also have the opportunity to see more of the country and visit places which the average tourist desn’t see.

Personally, the most enjoyable journey I have ever had initially began as a means of getting from A to B. I was in Perth (Western Australia) and needed to be in Sydney (NSW) a distance of about 4000 Kilometres!   I decided to practise what I preach and rather than travelling by plane I took the train across the vast continent of Australia. From the spectacular Blue Mountains to the treeless plains of The Nullarbor desert I saw things most tourists never see, I stopped in places I never expected to visit and met some extremely interesting people along the way. My advice to anyone who will listen is: Enjoy the journey, rather than rushing it. It will save energy, probably save you money and could well be one of the most enjoyable experiences of your life.
